8 Flat Belly Workouts You Can Do Every Morning

Mornings are my favorite time to move—before the emails, calls, and distractions start piling in. Years ago, I started doing just 10 minutes of core work every morning, and the changes were clear: better posture, flatter stomach, and more energy to start the day.

You don’t need fancy equipment or an hour-long routine. These flat belly workouts are quick, targeted, and designed to be done right after you roll out of bed.

Tiny Tip: I always keep a yoga mat near my bed. It’s a visual cue that reminds me to stick to the habit, even on lazy days.

1. Standing Oblique Crunches

Standing Oblique Crunches

This is my go-to warm-up move. It gets your core fired up while waking up the rest of your body. Stand tall, hands behind your head, and lift your right knee as you bring your right elbow toward it, crunching your side.

Alternate sides for 30 seconds to 1 minute.

Workout Tip

Try this while brushing your teeth—it’s a multitasking trick I picked up during a busy travel week when time was tight.

2. Reverse Crunches

REVERSE CRUNCHES

This one targets the lower belly, where stubborn fat tends to hang around. Lie on your back, knees bent, and lift your hips off the ground by curling your knees toward your chest. Keep it slow and controlled—15 reps does the trick.

Workout Tip

I started doing these during hotel stays—takes no space, but works wonders for the lower abs.

3. Plank with Shoulder Taps

Plank with Shoulder Taps

A great full-body move that strengthens your core and tests your balance. From a high plank, tap your left shoulder with your right hand, then switch. Try for 30 seconds to start.

Workout Tip

If you wobble a lot at first, that’s normal. I used to place my feet a little wider to stay stable—it made the movement easier to learn.

4. Flutter Kicks

Flutter Kicks

Lie flat on your back, hands under your hips, and lift your legs a few inches off the floor. Alternate fluttering them up and down without letting them touch the ground. Do this for 30–45 seconds.

Workout Tip

Focus on keeping your lower back pressed into the mat—it took me weeks to correct my form, but once I did, I felt it way more in the abs.

5. Russian Twists

Russian Twists

Sit down, lean back slightly, lift your feet off the floor, and twist your torso to move your hands from side to side. Use a water bottle if you don’t have weights. 20 twists total (10 each side).

Workout Tip

I used to do this with my toddler in my lap when he was a baby—turned it into a morning giggle fest and a workout all in one.

6. Mountain Climbers

Mountain Climbers

High-energy and great for cardio. Start in a plank and drive your knees toward your chest one at a time, like you’re running horizontally. Go for 30 seconds.

Workout Tip

This is the one I do on mornings when I feel sluggish—it wakes me up better than coffee.

7. Dead Bug

Dead Bug

Lie on your back with your arms straight up and legs in a tabletop position. Slowly lower your right arm and left leg without letting your back arch. Bring them back and switch sides. Aim for 10–12 reps per side.

Workout Tip

I learned this move in physical therapy—it’s gentle but super effective for building core control.

9. High Knees

High Knees

Finish with some standing cardio. Run in place, lifting your knees as high as you can. Keep your arms pumping. Try for 30 seconds, building up to 1 minute.

Workout Tip

I add this at the end to feel like I did something—it’s a quick burn that always gets my heart rate up before breakfast.
